summer sighs

Summer's here..to have the last laugh in this land of black soil and brown skin..to set the terms for the rest of the year..with one clean sweep, winter's lifted off the canvas..and you are welcome to broad, white, blinding light..after a dream of winter, you wake up to summer..one more, endless patient summer..boring thorny heat into your skin, etching shaded patterns on your feet, tossing them in the ruthless anarchy of dust till you ingrain sensations of the sun in your soul..till something inside you becomes permanently parched..till you feel the dryness seeping in..till you're pushed beyond wanting..one big lesson in endurance.,and you can't bunk it.

school tales..

i think one of the most heartbreaking sights is that of nervous, wailing, kicking, sobbing kids being driven and forced to school in early winter mornings... at times, when i used to watch those innocent faces silently endure those irrepressible sobs, i often had an impulse to just bundle them up after the parents' population had left, and give them a big long enjoyable drive till the school bell is about to ring..and then when the parents came to pick them up, they wud all be happy to c happy children returning from a happy day at school..so that is equal to service to parents+service to school+service to children..n then, who ever really learnt in school??
but then if they gave school a miss, i'd probably miss the cutest spectacle on earth..that of kids returning home in the afternoon..sleepy, lazy, silent, streched out in the rickshaw, lost and more innocent than ever, bags, waterbottles, ties, belts all hanging loose..all ready to be picked up and put to sleep..:)
